Newport is still very much on the map
Rosemary Butler says things are looking up for Newport in 2010, thanks to the new data centre on the LG Site and the imminent rescue of the Cambrian Centre redevelopment scheme.
"The empty site at Imperial Park caused me great concern in recent years and I raised the matter repeatedly with Ministers," she said." I was delighted when Next Generation Data, who received considerable help from the Assembly, decided to come to Newport. The centre is now open and their new tenants BT and Logica - with the hope of more to come - will also use the site. Apart from creating jobs and generating income locally, a data centre of this sort will also attract other companies to Newport.
"I was equally glad to hear that the Modus subsidiary company which originally set out to develop the Cambrian site, has now been acquired by the Scarborough Development Group. That's another piece of good news and I hope that the Friars Walk redevelopment will also get back on track. All this, as well as the Ryder Cup in October, means that Newport is still very much on the map."
