Transport charity Sustrans' success in The People's £50 million lottery giveaway is fantastic news for Newport says Rosemary Butler. The win means that £400,000 will now be spent to help complete a cycle and walking route between Newport centre, Caerleon and Wentwood. Rosemary Butler recently tabled a formal opinion in the Assembly in support of the Sustrans Connect2 bid. It was signed by 23 fellow AMs from all parties. She says: "It's fantastic news for Newport and for Wales as a whole. The response of of Welsh Assembly members, when they were asked to support it, was very heartening. "This result shows that the message about new and sustainable forms of transport is clearly sinking in. We can now look forward to an exciting project which will benefit many people in Newport and beyond, including cyclists, walkers and the disabled." The £50m will be spent on 179 projects throughout the UK, including 10 in Wales.
