Boost for stroke patients in Newport West

Newport West AM Rosemary Butler has welcomed the extra £2.5m which will be made available by the Assembly Government for stroke services in Wales.

The money, announced by Health Minister Edwina Hart, will ensure that extra hospital bed places are set aside for stroke patients.

‘’The Welsh Assembly is making stroke services a top priority and I am delighted about this extra funding because it will inevitably help stroke patients in Newport ",  she said..

‘’There are fewer incidents of people being affected by strokes now, but those who do suffer from them and survive face a range of disability problems. This money means they will receive the care and treatment they deserve.

“Newport 's Local Health Board will now benefit from part of this funding and will work with Newport City Council to identify where extra services are needed.’’
