Three schools in Newport West have been praised by local AM Rosemary Butler for their outstanding performance in the latest schools inspectors' report.

Caerleon Endowed Junior School and Monnow Junior School in Bettws have both been awarded the highest possible grades by Estyn- the Welsh schools inspectorate. And Malpas Court Primary School has also been placed in one of the highest categories in the report, which covers 2005-6.

"This shows that all the extra investment which is being earmarked for schools by the Assembly is reaping dividends," said Mrs Butler.

"And it's not just these three schools. Schools generally in Newport are making a great deal of progress, which is a testimony to the hard work of the teachers, support staff and governors of the schools."
