Newport West AM Rosemary Butler has welcomed the decision to save Christcurch Road Post Office from closure, and is relieved that West Park has a temporary reprieve. But she is critical of the decision to close the Malpas Road

post office.

"I am still very disappointed about the Malpas Road sub post office.The alternatives in the Town Centre or further along Malpas Road are simply too far away for many older people.

"I am glad about the West Park situation. The fact that the decision has been postponed until there are further meetings, shows that the solid objections put up by local people appear to be making an impact on the Post Office. I hope they will now see sense and keep this branch open.

"As for Christchurch Road - which is used by my constituents living in the village of Christchurch - I'm absolutely delighted. If that branch had closed they would have been very isolated from post office services and life would have been difficult for many of them."
