Newport West AM Rosemary Butler has been urging the Welsh Assembly Government to find a developer for the vacant Hynix site at the former LG complex in Newport. In a question to Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones at Assembly question time on November 21 she stressed the need for the site to be reallocated as soon as possible.
Rosemary Butler: This is one of the most attractive and valuable sites in the UK, and is vital to the continuing regeneration of the city of Newport. Can you give me further assurances—and you have given some assurances already—that you and your department, or Team Wales, as it is sometimes known, are doing everything possible to ensure that you attract prestigious development to this site as a matter of urgency?
The Deputy First Minister: That is an important point, Rosemary, because the site is still there, and it is a prestigious site. I can assure you that my officials and I have met on a number of occasions to see how we can ensure that the site is marketed in the most effective way possible, to attract good quality jobs to the site while learning the lessons of the past.
