The news that the Assembly has applied for planning permission to develop the former Hynix semi-conductor site in Newport as a data centre has been welcomed by Rosemary Butler. Rosemary recently pressed the Deputy First Minister Ieuan Wyn Jones for assurances that the building would be used. She described the site as one of the most attractive and valuable sites in the UK, which was vital to the city's regeneration. "I am delighted that progress is at last being made," she said, "and I hope we find some secure jobs for this site at last."
