Newport West AM Rosemary Butler has welcomed a move to introduce free entry to the Roman Baths at Caerleon for pensioners and families. Cadw and the Welsh Assembly Government are offering free admission to all their monuments in Wales on St David's Day, and the Welsh Assembly Government have also pledged to introduce free entry for pensioners and families with young children permanently, later in the year. Rosemary Butler said:
"I think any move to extend the principle throughout the year to the Roman Baths for pensioners and families would be both logical and important, and would be a great boost to the local tourism industry," she added. "Parents would be able to take their children to Caerleon to see both the Museum and the Roman Baths without getting hit in the pocket. And pensioners from all over the country would be able to enjoy their retirement that much more, whether they were visiting Caerleon or any of the other historical sites around Wales."
